Emergency & Storm Tree Service

Tree on the roof or blocking the driveway? Here's what to do first, and who to call.

Free estimates from an independent, local tree company. This site is a referral service.

Storm damage? Safety first

  1. Stay clear of the tree and anything it's touching, especially wires. Assume every downed line is live.
  2. Call 911 and DTE Energy if lines are down or anyone is hurt.
  3. Take photos of the tree and the damage before anything is moved.
  4. Call your insurance agent to start a claim if a structure was hit.
  5. Call a tree service to remove the weight safely and tarp-ready the roof area.

Common Michigan storm calls

  • Tree or large limb on a roof, garage or car
  • Split trunks on silver maples and Bradford pears
  • Uprooted trees after saturated spring soil and high wind
  • Ice-loaded branches hanging over driveways in winter
  • Fallen trees blocking a driveway or fence line

Beware of storm chasers who knock on doors after a storm and ask for cash up front. A local company with insurance paperwork is worth the wait.

Emergency tree service FAQs

A tree fell on my house. What do I do first?

Get everyone out of the damaged area. If a power line is involved or anyone is hurt, call 911. Then photograph the damage for your insurer and call a tree service to remove the tree safely. Don't climb on the roof or try to cut a loaded tree yourself.

Will insurance cover emergency tree removal?

Many homeowners policies cover removing a tree that fell on a covered structure, often up to a set limit. Trees that fall in the yard without hitting anything may not be covered. Call your agent and keep every receipt.

Do emergency jobs cost more?

Often, yes. After-hours and storm work can cost more because of crew call-outs and dangerous conditions. Ask for the price in writing before work starts, even in an emergency.

How fast can someone come out?

That depends on the crew's schedule and how widespread the storm was. After major storms, crews put the most dangerous situations first, like trees on homes and blocked driveways.
